FAQ
What does L.I.F.E. stands for?
L.I.F.E. is an acronym that stands for Living In Freedom Everyday. This acronym signifies what we stand for and why we want to free people from the grip of heroin addiction. This is our mission and purpose, and we are stepping up to do something about it.

What do the eagle and red crystal stone mean?
The eagle symbolizes freedom and courage.. When an eagle appears, you are on notice to be courageous and stretch your limits. Do not accept the status quo, but rather reach higher and become more than you believe you are capable of. Look at things from a new, higher perspective. Be patient with the present; know that the future holds possibilities that you may not yet be able to see. You are about to take flight.

We use a Swarovski crystal to define the perfect blend of innovation, design, and luxury. Similar to pink representing breast cancer awareness, we use the color red as it is the color for substance abuse awareness. Every piece will always contain a red Swarovski crystal, but not necessarily will contain an eagle head.

Why heroin addiction as a cause?
One statistic that we saw in 2015 caused our family to brainstorm what could we do about it. "Drug overdose deaths are the leading cause of injury death in the United States, ahead of motor vehicles deaths and firearms (deaths)" the Drug Enforcement Agency announced in November 2015. We concluded that writing a check to a non-profit was easy and non-personal. We were convinced that we wanted to be involved. We wanted to make our family mission to be able to have skin on the game and use our given talents to involve the entire family in the cause. We are commited, passionate, and confident that we will make a difference. With every purchase, you are making a difference too. Thank you!

Which non-profits is L.I.F.E. partnering with?
Our strategy was to partner with agencies on what we believe is a good 3-prong strategy to tackle heroin addiction. The three approaches are: Harm Reduction, Regional Treatment Facilities, and Family Help (Children & Youth).

Harm Reduction commits to making the drug using community healthier while increasing drug treatment enrollment. Harm reduction incorporates a spectrum of strategies from safer use, to managed use to abstinence to meet drug users “where they’re at,” addressing conditions of use along with the use itself. We are proud to partner with Cincinnati Exchange Project which offers participants an exchange of a used syringe for a new one. Participants also receive education on safer sex, safer injection use, and where to get drug treatment and medical care. Visit cincyep.org for more information.

Regional Treatment Facilities are centers that offer participants with residential treatments for a short or long term stay. We believe that taking the addicted person out of their environment for a period of time is truly needed to make a step change in the road to recovery. We are proud to partner with Center for Addiction Treatment of Greater Cincinnati to support them on providing care for heroin addicted individuals. When it first opened its doors in 1970, the Center for Addiction Treatment (CAT) offered a unique viewpoint on addiction. Its members firmly believed addiction was a disease to be treated, not a moral failing to be punished. We stand shoulder to shoulder with them in this belief. Visit catsober.org for more information.

Family Help for Children & Youth is a strategy to help the children and young adults whose parents have falled into drug addiction, prision, or even death. More often that not, the children of drug addicts end up homeless and with behavioral health issues. This is the riple effect that heroin addiction can cause in someone's family. We are proud to partner with Lighthouse Youth Services to help children, youth, and families in need. Operating since 1969, Lighthouse is nationally recognized as an innovator in services for families in crisis, for homeless youth and young adults, and for youth learning to become self-sufficient. The agency provides early childhood services; behavioral health and psychiatric services; home-based services to families; services to youth engaged with the juvenile justice system; community residential treatment facilities; foster care and adoption; independent living services; and opportunities through education. Visit lys.org for more information.
